It is home to some of the best German museums, galleries, gardens, theatres and world-class opera; besides being a host to the iconic Frankfurt Auto Show and the Frankfurt Book Fair.

The Romerberg

Romerberg is the old centre of Frankfurt. It has a unique cache of some historic buildings that date back to 14th century, though they were all rebuilt after being destroyed in the Second World War. The centerpiece here is a seven centuries old Gothic church of St. Leonhard. Close to it is the Archaologische Garten (Archeological Garden) that houses the age old remains of the Romans who once lived here, a 900 year old church called Alte Nikolaikirche, a 15th century fortified tower called the Rententurm (or the Wharfinger's Tower) and a 12th century castle called Saalhof.

Stadelsches Kunstinstitut (Staedel Museum)

The Staedel Museum in Frankfurt is home to a number of classic and modern European artworks. This 19th century museum is known for its 700 year old art collections of European maestros like Picasso, Durer, Rembrandt, and Rubens. Some of the masterpieces put here are ‘The Blinding of Samson (1636),’ ‘The Geographer (1669)’ and ‘Venus (1532).’

Kaiserdom/ Kaiserdom St Bartholomaus

Dedicated to the apostle St. Bartholomew, the Kaiserdom is a 14th century Gothic cathedral in Frankfurt. It was initially famous as the place where a number of Roman emperors were crowned between 1356 and 1792 AD. It has a flight of 325 spiral steps that take you to a 95 meter high tower to yield a stunning 360-degree view of the city below. An impossible to miss attraction here is the Dommuseum (or the Dom Museum) which has a small collection of some historical and sacred objects like the golden burial case of the Shrine of St. Epiphanius.
