Sarasota is a popular city on the Gulf Coast of Florida and the county seat of Sarasota County in US. Marie Selby Botanical Gardens have the world's only scientific collection of orchids and bromeliads. The gardens feature more than 20000 living plants including 5500 orchids, 3500 bromeliads and 1600 other plants. This large collection is supplemented by a herbarium with preserved specimens of tropical flora. It also has a butterfly garden, a fragrance garden and a koi fish pond besides a number of banyans, bamboo, live oaks, palms, and mangrove tress planted here.

The Mote Marine Laboratory is a research facility and aquarium that seeks to devote itself to the study of sharks. The laboratory features giant squid and sharks, and other marine animals like sea turtles, manatees, stone fish, dolphins, cuttlefish, jellyfish, sea anemones, and some other marine species.
